Select Cases

Squitieri & Fearon, LLP represents plaintiffs and large groups or classes of individuals who have suffered losses as a result of the misdeeds of corporations or other individuals. Below is a sample of some of the notable cases that Squitieri & Fearon, LLP is prosecuting.

ReliaStar Life Insurance Company Investigation:

ReliaStar Excessive Insurance Costs

Squitieri & Fearon, LLP is investigating claims for a class action against ReliaStar for imposing excessive cost-of-insurance charges, especially for certain universal life policies.  We are investigating whether ReliaStar is failing to reduce its charges as mortality rates have improved and is deducting from the cash value of the policies more than it is entitled to deduct, causing the cash value to decrease and sometimes causing the policies to lapse or to be cancelled.

If you or someone you know has a policy with ReliaStar and would like to learn more about our investigation, please fill out our online form, or contact Stephen J. Fearon, Jr. at stephen@sfclasslaw.com or by phone at (212) 421-6492.

SCANA Investigation:

Squitieri & Fearon, LLP is investigating potential claims on behalf of shareholders of SCANA Corporation (“SCANA” (NYSE Ticker Symbol “SCG”).

This investigation concerns the SCANA announcement that it may not resume construction on two nuclear power plants in South Carolina.  SCANA had previously sought rate increases tied to the costs of construction of the nuclear plants.  Those rate increases allowed executives to earn substantial extra compensation even though officers knew or should have known that the construction on the reactors was experiencing material delays that threatened the viability of the project.

When the risks were exposed and SCANA made its announcement, SCANA stock price eventually fell approximately 15% to under $50 per share for the first time in approximately 3 years.

Schools, Colleges and Universities’ Tuition, Room & Board Charges Under Investigation:

SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES’ TUITION, ROOM & BOARD CHARGES UNDER INVESTIGATION

Squitieri & Fearon, LLP is investigating claims for a possible class action on behalf of students, families and guardians who paid tuition, room and board and other fees for the Spring 2020 academic semester at any education institutions, and who—because of that institution’s response to the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (“COVID-19”) pandemic—lost the benefit of the education for which they paid without having any or all of their tuition, room, board and other fees refunded to them.

These institutions continue to charge for fees, tuition, room and board despite sending home students and closing campuses.  Collectively, these institutions are continuing to receive millions from students despite their inability to continue school as normal or occupy campus buildings and dorms.

If you or somebody you know has been affected by these practices, please contact Stephen J. Fearon, Jr. by e-mail at stephen@sfclasslaw.com.  You can also complete the following form, and someone from the firm will contact you.

SECURA AIR FRYERS INVESTIGATION:

Squitieri & Fearon, LLP is investigating claims for people whose Secura air fryer caught on fire, overheated or smoking.

In September 2023, Secura recalled over 6,400 air fryers due to a fire and burn hazard.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled air fryers. To check if your air fryer is being recalled, look for the model number and date code that is printed on the silver label at the bottom of the air fryer.

The recall includes Secura air fryers with model numbers SAF-53D (TXG-DT16E) with date code 1901, and model number SAF-53 (TXG-DS16) with date codes 1903 and 1904.  The recalled air fryers are black with silver accents and “Secura” is printed on the top of each unit.

If you or someone you know purchased a Secura air fryer listed in the recall, you may be eligible to pursue a claim.  Please complete the following form, and someone from the firm will contact you, or you can contact Stephen J.
