STORE-BRAND VERSIONS OF MUCINEX SOLD BY CVS, WALMART, WALGREENS, AND TARGET CONTAINING CANCER-CAUSING BENZENE
Squitieri & Fearon, LLP is investigating claims for people who purchased generic versions of Mucinex that contained cancer-causing Benzene, a known carcinogen. Benzene is a highly flammable chemical used primarily as a solvent in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Exposure to benzene can occur by inhalation, orally, and through the skin, and it can result in cancers, including leukemia and blood cancer.
It was recently revealed that the store-name versions of Mucinex sold by pharmacies in the US, including CVS, Walmart, Walgreens and Target, contain benzene. These products include:
Walmart’s Equate brand of “Mucus Relief”, “Mucus Relief DM”, “Mucus D” and “Mucus ER”
CVS’s “Mucus Extended Release”, “Mucus DM Extended Release”, “Mucus ER”, and “Mucus D”
Walgreens “Mucus Relief”, “Mucus DM Extended Relief”, “Mucus Relief Chest Congestion”, “Mucus Relief DM”
Target’s “Mucus Relief”, “Mucus Relief DM”, and “Maximum Strength Mucus Relief” as well as other store-brand products.
It was also recently revealed that other products contained benzene, such as Walgreens’ version of the oral pain reliever Anbesol, Walmart’s Equate brand face moisturizer with sunscreen, and Rite Aid’s version of Bengay muscle rub.
